On a lighter note.. High FIVE to Julian on his 5th birthday

On my soapbox

Land of the free and the home of the brave?  Who's brave enough to stop this?  Grow some balls, America. The Second Amendment was written in a very different time.  The civilized world thinks you're a bunch of gun-toting morons.  Prove them wrong.  Just this morning on NPR there was an interview with Michael Waldman, who just wrote a book about the Second Amendment, that I wish everyone would listen to.  Meanwhile, as I was brushing my teeth getting ready for work, at that moment a kid was shooting in his high school 15 miles away.  He killed a student and injured a teacher.  Listen/read here:  http://n.pr/1l6WNpg
I know there are responsible gun owners.  I know a few.  It sickens me to kids playing with guns- toys or real ones.  My own nephew plays with toy guns that look incredibly real.  If I didn't know him and I saw him walking down my street with them - I would call the cops.  I fear he will get shot by a Florida moron with a real gun.  This is not the Wild West, there is nobody coming to invade- and if they do- we have an army for that!  We also have a police force.  The first time I ever saw a gun was at the American Embassy in London.  Then we moved here and they were everywhere!  Your old amendment from 1789 has to be changed.  It's 2014 and it's pretty flippin' obvious that guns end up in the hands of the wrong people every single day.  Today's shooting was the 74th school shooting since Adam Lanza shot up an elementary school and killed 26 people in Newtown, Ct.  THAT WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO.  It's sick.  It's barbaric.  It's Bullshit.  And it's not like the Second Amendment is the only one that has been interpreted to mean something different than the original article in 1789.  Look at the First for God's sake (pun intended).  Freedom of religion is stretched greatly in everyday American life.  To quote my friend Thann Clark, " I will listen all to all of your arguments about how sacred the 2nd amendment is, right after you agree to take "In God we Trust" off our money, remove all copies of the Ten Commandments from courthouses, and ban any form of prayer at the start of city council meetings and public school ceremonies. While we are at it, lets get rid of taking oaths on a bible, and remove all holiday religious displays from public property. Agree to properly enforce the 1st amendment and then lets talk about the 2nd."
